摘要： The Northeast Atlantic mackerel (Scomber scombrus) is a zooplanktivorous fish with its main summer feeding grounds in the waters around Iceland. The zooplankton in the stomachs of the caught fish causes several problems during processing due to the high enzyme activity of the zooplankton. The aim of the study was to evaluate the chemical characteristics of zooplankton that accompanies mackerel as a side-catch and stomach fullness as affected by catching year, season, catching zone, and catching method over three mackerel seasons from 2016 to 2018. Species identification by the fatty acid tropic marker method (FATM) was also applied within the zooplankton rich side-stream. FATM analysis indicated that the majority of the zooplankton mass belonged to Calanus finmarchicus. The lipid composition of the zooplankton rich side-stream varied between years but was rich in monounsaturated, as well as polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). The results suggest that the zooplankton rich side-stream from mackerel caught in Icelandic waters has the potential for further sustainable processing into valuable nutrients.

摘要： This article presents a data set on ash, proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, chitin, organic carbon (OC), total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) contents, macronutrients ratio (C, N, and P) and energy content of zooplankton (size fraction >500 mu m) from the Kara Sea. Zooplankton samples were collected at 22 stations during the 76th interdisciplinary cruise of the R/V "Akademik Mstislav Keldysh" in July 2019. Proteins constituted the main component of zooplankton dry weight (43.39 +/- 2.57% DW), while lipids amounted to 26.67 +/- 2.28% DW and carbohydrates reached 4.91 +/- 0.49% DW. Ash and chitin contents were 18.78 +/- 1.39% and 3.68 +/- 0.37% DW, respectively. The concentrations of macronutrients (C, N, and P) corresponded to the values of Arctic zooplankton and averaged 47.52 +/- 1.12% for OC, 7.34 +/- 0.39% for TN, and 0.70 +/- 0.04% for TP of DW. The contribution of the individual components of the biochemical composition of zooplankton of the Kara Sea to the total OC revealed the dominant role of not only lipids but also proteins as compounds used by zooplankton in organic carbon accumulation. The Redfield ratio varied widely. The average values of C-6.6:N, C-70:P and N-10.5:P were low and reflected certain features of the biochemical composition of the Kara Sea zooplankton community in the spring. The energy content of zooplankton of the Kara Sea ranged from 18.3 to 25.58 J mg(-1) and averaged 20.25 +/- 0.53 J mg(-1) DW. The proportions of lipids and proteins in the total energy reserve of zooplankton were similar to 47 and similar to 46%, respectively, while the share of carbohydrates, their derivatives and chitin amounted to similar to 7%.

摘要： The direct oral anticoagulants targeting coagulation factor Xa or thrombin are widely used as alternatives to vitamin K antagonists in the management of venous thromboembolism and nonvalvular atrial fibrillation. In case of bleeding or emergency surgery, reversal agents are helpful to counteract the anticoagulant therapy and restore hemostasis. While idarucizumab has been established as an antidote for the direct thrombin inhibitor dabigatran, reversal strategies for the direct factor Xa inhibitors have been a focal point in clinical care over the past years. In the absence of specific reversal agents, the off-label use of (activated) prothrombin complex concentrate and recombinant factor VIIa have been suggested as effective treatment options during inhibitor-induced bleeding complications. Meanwhile, several specific reversal agents have been developed. In this review, an overview of the current state of nonspecific and specific reversal agents for the direct factor Xa inhibitors is provided, focusing on the biochemistry and mechanism of action and the preclinical assessment of newly emerging therapies.

摘要： The "Harnessing Interdisciplinary Education in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology" education conference was held on November 13-15, 2019 in Manila, Philippines. The conference was sponsored by the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular (IUBMB). With over 400 attendees from 22 countries themes discussed by the speakers and enthusiastic participants ranged from teaching biochemistry and molecular biology at all levels and to students in a range of disciplines.

摘要： This review is focused on the study of the effects of grape seed and skin extract (GSSE) on human health. GSSE contains high concentrations of important polyphenolic substances with high biological activity. This review is a summary of studies that investigate the effects of GSSE on diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease and cancer, its neuroprotective effect, and its effects on the gastrointestinal tract and other health complications related to these diseases. The results of the studies confirm that the anti-inflammatory, antiapoptotic, and pro-proliferative effects of "Vitis vinifera L." seed extract reduce the level of oxidative stress and improve the overall lipid metabolism.

摘要： This study investigated the effects of acute heat stress (HS), sex, and their interaction on growth performance, serum biochemical and redox status in the later stage broilers. Two hundred 38-day-old Ross 308 chicks were allocated in a factorial arrangement of 2 x 2 (temperatures and sexes) with 5 replicates of 10 bird each. Thermoneutral and heat-stressed broilers were raised at 24 +/- 1 degrees C or 32 +/- 1 degrees C from day 38 to 39, respectively. HS decreased the average daily feed intake (ADFI) and average daily gain (ADG) whereas it increased feed conversion ratio (FCR), rectal temperature (RT), and respiratory rate (RR) in broilers exposed to high temperature for 24 h and 48 h. Moreover, RT, RR, serum glucose, and HDL-C levels increased while triglyceride (TG), total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) decreased in broilers exposed to high temperature for 12 h. Male broilers had higher final body weight (FBW), ADFI, ADG, total protein carbonyl group, and lower FCR and T-SOD than females in HS condition for 24 h and 48 h. Lower RT, serum albumin, HDL-C, activities of T-SOD and GPx were observed when compared with those of males in HS condition for 12 h. There were significant temperature x sex interactive effects on ADFI, ADG, and TG in broilers exposed to high temperature for 24 h and 48 h. The present study suggests that the acute HS negatively affects growth performance which is accompanied by the disorder of serum nutritional metabolism and imbalance of redox status in later stage broilers. Some parameters presented sexual differences that suggested it may be more effective to alleviate the negative effects of HS when broiler producers take into account the gender of broiler.

摘要： Biochemically recurrent prostate cancer represents a stage of prostate cancer where conventional (continued on next page) computed tomography and technetium Tc 99m bone scan imaging are unable to detect disease after curative intervention despite rising prostate-specific antigen. There is no clear standard of care and no systemic therapy has been shown to improve survival. Immunotherapy-based treatments potentially are attractive options relative to androgen deprivation therapy due to the generally more favorable side-effect profile. Biochemically recurrent prostate cancer patients have a low tumor burden and likely lymph node-based disease, which may make them more likely to respond to immunotherapy.

摘要： Mentoring to many is the informal highly unstructured teaching, advising, and nurturing which we receive from various individuals during our school years and professional lives and then give back to our students and more junior colleagues. However, with the advances in science and technology, the increasing competitiveness in the workplace, fast pace of life, and globalization, the importance of proper mentoring in the training of science professionals has gained the attention of and has been discussed and studied by higher institutions of learning and national academies of science. During the past two decades, efforts toward making mentoring more structured by national academies of sciences and academic and professional institutions have produced guidelines, mentoring programs for mentors and mentees, faculty, students, scholarly research publications on mentoring, and related aspects. This article attempts to discuss the various aspects and concerns of traditional, structured, and institutional mentoring.

摘要： The feasibility and efficacy of hypofractionated salvage radiotherapy (HS-RT) for prostate cancer (PC) with biochemical recurrence (BR) after prostatectomy, and the usefulness of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) kinetics as a predictor of BR, were evaluated in 38 patients who received HS-RT without androgen deprivation therapy between May 2009 and January 2017. Their median age, PSA level and PSA doubling time (PSA-DT) at the start of HS-RT were 68 (53-74) years, 0.28 (0.20-0.79) ng/ml and 7.7 (2.3-38.5) months, respectively. A total dose of 60 Gy in 20 fractions (three times a week) was three-dimensionally delivered to the prostate bed. After a median follow-up of 62 (30-100) months, 19 (50%) patients developed a second BR after HS-RT, but only 1 patient died before the last follow-up. The 5-year overall survival and BR-free survival rates were 97.1 and 47.4%, respectively. Late grade 2 gastrointestinal and genitourinary morbidities were observed in 0 and 5 (13%) patients, respectively. The PSA level as well as pathological T-stage and surgical margin status were regarded as significant predictive factors for a second BR by multivariate analysis. BR developed within 6 months after HS-RT in 11 (85%) of 13 patients with a PSA-DT <10 months compared with 1 (17%) of 6 with a PSA-DT >= 10 months (median time to BR: 3 vs 14 months, P < 0.05). Despite the small number of patients, our HS-RT protocol seems feasible, and PSA kinetics may be useful for predicting the risk of BR and determining the appropriate follow-up schedule.

摘要： Background To date, China has no industry standard for reference intervals of paediatric blood biochemical markers. This study aimed to evaluate changes in biochemical markers in the venous blood of healthy children aged 29 days to 12 years, derived from the UniCel DxC 800 system, and establish appropriate reference intervals. Methods We analysed venous blood from 1980 healthy children for 20 biochemical markers. Reference intervals were established according to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute C28-A3c guideline and compared with those of adults in China. Results All markers except for sodium and chlorine required partitioning by age, but not by sex. The reference intervals of total protein, albumin, globulin, carbon dioxide, urea nitrogen, creatinine and uric acid consistently increased with age in children, but were always lower than those of adults. Children aged 29 days to 12 years had a single combined RI for sodium and chloride, respectively;although the reference intervals in children were similar to those of adults, their upper limits were lower. The reference intervals of direct bilirubin, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus continued to decline with age. The reference intervals of total bilirubin, indirect bilirubin, and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase initially declined followed by a slight rebound. Conclusions While establishing reference intervals, most markers required partitioning by age (aged 29 days to 12 years);the partitioning scheme differed for each marker, and paediatric reference intervals differed from those for adults. It is therefore necessary to establish separate paediatric reference intervals.
