摘要： Skillful sequential action requires the delicate balance of sensorimotor control, encompassing both robustness and adaptability. However, it remains unknown whether both motor and neural responses triggered by sensory perturbation undergo plastic adaptation as a consequence of extensive sensorimotor experience. We assessed the effects of transiently delayed tone production on the subsequent motor actions and event-related potentials (ERPs) during piano performance by comparing pianists and non-musicians. Following the perturbation, the inter-keystroke interval was abnormally prolonged in non-musicians but not in pianists. By contrast, the keystroke velocity following the perturbation was increased only in the pianists. A regression model demonstrated that the change in the inter-keystroke interval covaried with the ERPs, particularly at the frontal and parietal regions. The alteration in the keystroke velocity was associated with the P300 component of the temporal region. These findings suggest that different neural mechanisms underlie robust and adaptive sensorimotor skills across proficiency level.

摘要： R-loops play diverse functional roles, but controversial genomic localization of R-loops have emerged from experimental approaches, posing significant challenges for R-loop research. The development and application of an accurate computational tool for studying human R-loops remains an unmet need. Here, we introduce DeepER, a deep learning-enhanced R-loop prediction tool. DeepER showcases outstanding performance compared to existing tools, facilitating accurate genome-wide annotation of R-loops and a deeper understanding of the position- and context-dependent effects of nucleotide composition on R-loop formation. DeepER also unveils a strong association between certain tandem repeats and R-loop formation, opening a new avenue for understanding the mechanisms underlying some repeat expansion diseases. To facilitate broader utilization, we have developed a user-friendly web server as an integral component of R-loopBase. We anticipate that DeepER will find extensive applications in the field of R-loop research.

摘要： Bisphenol A (BPA), a synthetic organic compound widely used in the production of plastics, is recognized as an emerging contaminant because of its toxicity and the potential risks associated with bioaccumulation in organisms. Despite potential environmental hazards, there is a lack of studies examining BPA toxicity mechanisms and its potential impact on various trophic levels, with even fewer exploring whether global stressors such as temperature can affect the toxicity of BPA in organisms. Our aim was to assess the combined impact of BPA and varying temperature regimes on life-history traits in Daphnia magna. Our results revealed a significant impact of BPA on the growth, reproduction, and accumulated moulting of D. magna, with adverse effects primarily associated with the assimilation of BPA in algae rather than the BPA present in the medium, pointing to a trophic transfer mechanism. The interactive effect between BPA and temperature demonstrated a slight stimulatory effect of low BPA level on D. magna growth rate under warming constant conditions, but an inhibitory under warming fluctuating temperatures. Additionally, a BPA threshold was identified, below which growth became temperature-dependent. This study emphasizes the crucial role of considering temperature in predicting how toxins may affect Daphnia within aquatic food webs.

摘要： There has been some concern about the impact of predatory publishers on scientific research for some time. Recently, publishers that might previously have been considered ‘predatory’ have established their bona fides, at least to the extent that they are included in citation impact scores such as the field-weighted citation impact (FWCI). These are sometimes called ‘grey’ publishers (MDPI, Frontiers, Hindawi). In this paper, we show that the citation landscape for these grey publications is significantly different from the mainstream landscape and that affording publications in these venues the same status as publications in mainstream journals may significantly distort metrics such as the FWCI. © 2024, CC BY.
