摘要： We were delighted to have the paper "A Methodology for Collecting Valid Software Engineering Data", by Victor Basili and David Weiss (1984) considered one of the most influential papers of IEEE Transaction of Software Engineering's first decade. The paper discusses data or information on software quality and what were the most effective software development techniques. It was published in November, 1984. It was written at a time when software development was just becoming widespread practice, but it was not common to use data or information on software quality in order to learn what were the most effective software development techniques under different conditions. To try to alleviate this problem, we suggested that when people (or organizations) developed software, they should try to measure the effectiveness of their development techniques. In particular, since software is typically long-living, change data should be collected so that methods and processes could be managed.

摘要： Drug repositioning has emerged as a promising strategy for identifying new therapeutic applications for existing drugs. In this study, we present DRGBCN, a novel computational method that integrates heterogeneous information through a deep bilinear attention network to infer potential drugs for specific diseases. DRGBCN involves constructing a comprehensive drug-disease network by incorporating multiple similarity networks for drugs and diseases. Firstly, we introduce a layer attention mechanism to effectively learn the embeddings of graph convolutional layers from these networks. Subsequently, a bilinear attention network is constructed to capture pairwise local interactions between drugs and diseases. This combined approach enhances the accuracy and reliability of predictions. Finally, a multi-layer perceptron module is employed to evaluate potential drugs. Through extensive experiments on three publicly available datasets, DRGBCN demonstrates better performance over baseline methods in 10-fold cross-validation, achieving an average area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) of 0.9399. Furthermore, case studies on bladder cancer and acute lymphoblastic leukemia confirm the practical application of DRGBCN in real-world drug repositioning scenarios. Importantly, our experimental results from the drug-disease network analysis reveal the successful clustering of similar drugs within the same community, providing valuable insights into drug-disease interactions. In conclusion, DRGBCN holds significant promise for uncovering new therapeutic applications of existing drugs, thereby contributing to the advancement of precision medicine.

摘要： In this issue of IEEE Internet Computing, we included articles that focus on important aspects of computing for sustainability. The first article argues that to enable sustainable computing, the computing sector will need to consider and integrate sustainability across multiple levels of the system stack. The next article focuses on quantifying and optimizing the carbon emissions of data transfers over wide-area networks, a significant but often overlooked source of emissions. Finally, our last article presents a vision for a new field of computational decarbonization that focuses on applying computational techniques to jointly optimize and reduce the lifecycle carbon emissions of complex computing and societal infrastructure systems.

摘要： Action Quality Assessment (AQA) is a challenging task involving analyzing fine-grained technical subactions, aligning high-level visual-semantic representations, and exploring internal temporal structures that capture the overall meaning of given action sequences. To address these challenges, we propose a Visual-semantic Alignment Temporal Parsing Network (VATP-Net) to understand the high-level visual semantics of subaction sequences and internal temporal structures without explicit supervision for action quality assessment. The proposed approach designs a self-supervised temporal parsing module to generate subaction sequences from the given video by aligning the visual and semantic action features. It captures high-level semantics and the internal temporal dynamics of subaction sequences. Furthermore, a multimodal interaction module is proposed to capture the interaction between different modalities of action features, enabling a comprehensive assessment of fine-grained and scene-invariant action details. The proposed module captures the intricate relationships and encourages interactions between different modalities within an action sequence, enhancing the overall understanding of action assessment. We exhaustively evaluate our proposed approach on the MTL-AQA, Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG), FineFS, and Fis-V datasets. Extensive experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of our proposed approach, which outperforms state-of-the-art methods by a significant margin.

摘要： I am happy and honored to have been reappointed as Editor in Chief (EiC) for the IEEE Transactions on VLSI Systems (TVLSI) for another two-year term. As I continue my efforts to improve the quality of the journal, I am grateful for the renewed trust placed in me by the three IEEE sponsoring societies (CASS, SSCS and CS) and by the VLSI community at large. Contrary to a feared slowdown due to increased difficulties with scaling, the field of Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) has actually grown at an increasingly fast rate as it provides the hardware backbone for the insatiable AI applications which are taking over the world. The H100/200 GPUs, which are essential for AI training, are the largest “conventional” integrated circuits (IC) with 80 billion transistors, while the wafer-scale WSE2/3, which can provide significant improvements in AI inference, are absolute behemoths with 4 trillion transistors! Mr. Moore can be proud there in heaven for what our industry is able to deliver!

摘要： Through qualitative inquiry of a 9th-grade computer science (CS) classroom, this paper examines how teachers' pedagogical approaches can help prioritize the social and emotional dimensions of student learning to foster STEM identity and development. Findings from an ethnographic study of the delivery of the Exploring Computer Science curriculum in a high school setting of majority of students of color, and low-income youth identify five high-leverage instructional strategies. These strategies include 1) teacher mindsets towards specific subject areas like computer science;2) creating conditions for affirming students culturally;3) intentionally prioritizing student autonomy for social and emotional development;4) co-constructing knowledge to increase student engagement;and 5) helping students create their own STEM identity by exposing them to STEM professionals of similar racial and cultural characteristics as students. Collectively, these practices offer critical windows into how educators can act as intermediaries in helping students see themselves in the CS field and STEM/CS career pathways. Findings from this study can inform strategies for teacher education and policy efforts seeking to close learning gaps for historically marginalized groups and to improve racial and gender diversity in opportunities for growing STEM fields.

摘要： Recently, interval-valued fuzziness and negative structures have gained popularity among researchers and have been widely used in algebraic structures such as semigroups, rings, and lattices. The crossing cubic structure (C C) is an expansion of a bipolar fuzziness structure and a parallel circuit between interval-valued fuzziness and negative structures. The main objective of this study is to apply the idea of C Cs to BE-algebras. In the present research, we modify and extend the notions of fuzziness algebraic substructures, namely subalgebras, weak subalgebras and filters of BE-algebras to introduce the notions of crossing cubic subalgebras (C CSs), weak crossing cubic subalgebras ( WCCSs), and crossing cubic filters (CCFs) in BE-algebras, and we probe several characteristics of these notions. Furthermore, the relationship between C CS s, WCCSs, and CCFs in BE-algebras is established. After that, the conditions under which CCs can be CCS and C CF, and the condition under which WCCS can be C CS are discovered. At last, some characterizations of C CFin BE-algebras are presented.

摘要： Higher Education programming courses usually present high levels of student failure and drop-out rates. Given this context, the use of educational video games is proposed as a strategy to increase the students' motivation and engagement, thus helping diminish such rates. However, there is a lack of empirical studies examining such effects, especially when they are proposed outside the formal curriculum (i.e., extracurricular) and when the students are enrolled in different Higher Education bachelors. This paper presents a cross-sectional study following a between-subjects design with 315 students (168 assigned to the experimental condition, 147 to the control condition) enrolled in one of the following bachelors: B.S. in Computer Science (where programming is a core subject), and B.S. in Statistics (where it is not). The study spanned two consecutive academic years. The outcomes were evaluated through a pre-/post-test schema and comparison of final course results to measure the effect on learning (objective assessment) and a survey to get the students' perceptions (subjective assessment). In addition, the level of participation was analyzed and compared between bachelors, considering the optional nature of the activity. Results show statistically significant differences in learning outcomes between the students in the experimental condition and those in the control group, without clear differences between Bachelors (the results are positive for both). In the subjective assessment and participation, the results are also positive, but, in this case, statistically significant differences between bachelors have been observed. These positive outcomes suggest its potential applicability to other Higher Education and Engineering courses.
