摘要： After almost 25 years of what could justifiably be called transformative change in South Africa, a truism is that the country's new legal order, established by the Constitution in 1993 and 1996, provides the critical foundation of peace and security upon which its freedom has been built. The Constitutional Court was one of the most important of the new democratic institutions in the shaping of the country's position as a constitutional democracy, upholding the values for which millions of people, black and white, had fought. This article is a brief reflection on the role of the Court in establishing the meaning of this democracy and giving it effect. The main goal of the article is to understand how the Court's new jurisprudence works in particular contexts, how its work is related to crime and punishment, and what it means for the rights of marginalised groups in society. Using the examples of the Court's decision in Makwanyane on the death penalty, and the Court's decision on the findings of the Public Protector's report on Nkandla, the article finds that the Court's new jurisprudence takes quite a different view of legal developments in South Africa, insofar as the jurisprudence entrusts broad discretion to the Court and emphasises the need for sustained leadership of the Court to advance the battle for fundamental human rights, the rule of law, and democratic accountability.

摘要： James M. Cain and the songwriter Al Dubin were drafted into the army and served on the Western Front during World War I. Both men would go on to play major roles in the making of American popular culture during the interwar period: Cain writing the noir bestsellers The Postman Always Rings Twice and Double Indemnity, Dubin providing the lyrics for several hit musicals, including 42nd Street. For both artists, the impact of the war was more complicated than the themes of disillusionment and a collective loss of innocence more famously offered by writers like Hemingway and Dos Passos. This article argues that Cain's and Dubin's pop successes in fact reflected the attitudes of millions of other veterans, who rejected the Progressive Era's moralism and asserted a new, determined, cynical, and irreverent sensibility in American life. Cain and Dubin were not alone, but part of a larger generation of Great War veteran artists who are rarely regarded as such, Frank Capra, Preston Sturges, Jack Benny, Thomas Hart Benton, and Norman Rockwell among them. Working in the most accessible forms of art and entertainment, their contributions, no less than the Lost Generation's, should also be identified as an important legacy of World War I.

摘要： We work out a quantum-theoretic model in complex Hilbert space of a recently performed test on co-occurrencies of two concepts and their combination in retrieval processes on specific corpuses of documents. The test violated the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt version of Bell's inequalities ('CHSH inequality'), thus indicating the presence of entanglement between the combined concepts. We make use of a recently elaborated 'entanglement scheme' and represent the collected data in the tensor product of Hilbert spaces of the individual concepts, showing that the identified violation is due to the presence of a strong form of entanglement, involving both states and measurements and reflecting the meaning connection between the component concepts. These results provide a significant confirmation of the presence of quantum structures in corpuses of documents, like it is the case for the entanglement identified in human cognition.

摘要： Background. Escape rooms have been utilized to incorporate teamwork, communication, policy, and procedures reinforcement, as well as clinical care. Often themed, escape rooms challenge a team of players to discover clues and sequentially solve puzzles with the ultimate task of accomplishing a specific goal in a limited time frame, fostering critical thinking. Method. This learning activity incorporates legal implications for prelicensure nursing students in a pediatric community summer camp/after school care environment. Care and legal implications for a minor experiencing respiratory distress was the premise of this escape room. Outcomes. While this was not a research study, surveys were distributed for quality improvement and a deeper needs assessment related to the content and delivery of an escape room. Learners discussed the positive aspects of this activity through journal entries and a survey, noting the need for increased content related to legal implications for the medical team. This room engaged the learner in the forward-thinking that is needed related to emergency care, Good Samaritan Act, liability for cost, and permission to treat in a time-pressured environment. Future Plans. Testing the knowledge pre-post survey related to legal implications with implied care will be explored.

摘要： This paper casts light on cultural heritage storytelling in the context of interactive documentary, a hybrid media genre that employs a full range of multimedia tools to document reality, provide sustainability of the production and successful engagement of the audience. The main research hypotheses are enclosed in the statements: (a) the interactive documentary is considered a valuable tool for the sustainability of cultural heritage and (b) digital approaches to documentary storytelling can provide a sustainable form of viewing during the years. Using the Greek interactive documentary (i-doc) NEW LIFE (2013) as a case study, the users' engagement is evaluated by analyzing items from a seven-year database of web metrics. Specifically, we explore the adopted ways of the interactive documentary users to engage with the storytelling, the depth to which they were involved along with the most popular sections/traffic sources and finally, the differences between the first launch period and latest years were investigated. We concluded that interactivity affordances of this genre enhance the social dimension of cultural, while the key factors for sustainability are mainly (a) constant promotion with transmedia approach;(b) data-driven evaluation and reform;and (c) a good story that gathers relevant niches, with specific interest to the story.

摘要： Network Function Virtualization (NFV) is a new paradigm to enable service innovation through virtualizing traditional network functions. To construct a new NFV-enabled network, there are two critical requirements: minimizing server deployment cost and satisfying switch resource constraints. However, prior work mostly focuses on the server deployment cost, while ignoring the switch resource constraints (e.g., switch's flow-table size). It thus results in a large number of rules on switches and leads to massive control overhead. To address this challenge, we propose an incremental server deployment (INSD) problem for construction of scalable NFV-enabled networks. We prove that the INSD problem is NP-Hard, and there is no polynomial-time algorithm with approximation ratio of (1- epsilon) center dot lnm, where epsilon is an arbitrarily small value and m is the number of requests in the network. We then present an efficient algorithm with an approximation ratio of 2 center dot H(q center dot p), where q is the number of VNF's categories and p is the maximum number of requests through a switch. We evaluate the performance of our algorithm with experiments on physical platform (Pica8), Open vSwitches, and large-scale simulations. Both experimental results and simulation results show high scalability of the proposed algorithm. For example, our solution can reduce the control and rule overhead by about 88% with about 5% additional server deployment, compared with the existing solutions.

摘要： Manually determining concepts present in a group of questions is a challenging and time-consuming process. However, the process is an essential step while modeling a virtual learning environment since a mapping between concepts and questions using mastery level assessment and recommendation engines is required. In this article, we investigated unsupervised semantic models (known as topic modeling techniques) to assist computer science teachers in this task and propose a method to transform Computer Science 1 teacher-provided code solutions into representative text documents, including the code structure information. By applying nonnegative matrix factorization and latent Dirichlet allocation techniques, we extract the underlying relationship between questions and validate the results using an external dataset. We consider the interpretability of the learned concepts using 14 university professors' data, and the results confirm six semantically coherent clusters using the current dataset. Moreover, the six topics comprise the main concepts present in the test dataset, achieving 0.75 in the normalized pointwise mutual information metric. The metric correlates with human ratings, making the proposed method useful and providing semantics for large amounts of unannotated code.

摘要： The research work has focused on detection and prediction of melanoma which is done by subjecting to features extraction, where the features of an image consisting of melanoma regions are detected by analysis and this analysis is done by considering the features like color and texture-based features learning strategy. These features are extracted by combining color and texture-based features extraction with deep convolutional features representation learning strategy. The colors of images are extracted by representing the colors of different channels into red, green and blue channel information. The combination of texture features extraction with color-based features extraction in addition to Alex net features extraction learning has made the system more robust and efficient toward the segmentation and classification of images. Further, the erected method involves convoluting the features of extracted information with color and texture-based method which has led our system to full convolution neural networks with images features extraction. The melanoma is detected and segmented with watershed segmentation, these segmented features are subjected to the proposed features extraction method, where the features are extracted by combining the methods of texture with color-based information. These colors are made available to the proposed method by analyzing the regions of melanoma images. The erected method does the task of features extraction by Weber law descriptors in combination with red, green, blue channels information extracted from features representation learning. The proposed method has yielded an accuracy of 94.12% of segmentation accuracy and a classification accuracy of 94.32% with respect to various other classification techniques.
