摘要： BackgroundPatients with 'underlying' autism spectrum disorder (ASD) constitute a significant minority in adult out-patient psychiatry. Diagnoses of previously unrecognised ASD are increasing in adults. Characteristics of patients with autism within adult out-patient psychiatry have not been sufficiently explored, and there have not been any systematic comparisons of characteristics between patients with and those without autism within adult out-patient psychiatric populations. AimsTo examine psychiatrically relevant characteristics in autistic adult psychiatric out-patients, and to compare the characteristics with non-autistic adult psychiatric out-patients. MethodWe assessed 90 patients who were referred to a Swedish psychiatric out-patient clinic and screened for ASD during 2019-2020. Sixty-three patients met the DSM-5 criteria for ASD or 'subthreshold' ASD. The 27 who did not meet the criteria for ASD were used as a comparison group. Assessments were made with structured and well-validated instruments, including parent ratings of developmental history. ResultsNo differences were found between the groups regarding self-reported sociodemographic variables. The ASD group showed a higher number of co-occurring psychiatric disorders than the non-ASD group (t((88)) = 5.17, 95% CI 1.29-2.91, d = 1.19). Functional level was lower in the ASD group (t((88)) = -2.66, 95% CI -9.46 to -1.27, d = -0.73), and was predicted by the number of co-occurring psychiatric disorders. ConclusionsThe results underscore the need for thorough assessment of psychiatric disorders in autistic patients in adult psychiatric services. ASD should be considered as a possible 'underlying' condition in adult psychiatry, and there is no easy way of ruling out ASD in this population.

摘要： While the last two decades have seen an increased interest in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) in K-12 schools, few efforts have focused on the teachers and teaching practices necessary to support these interventions. Even fewer have considered the important work that teachers carry out not just inside classrooms but beyond the classroom walls to sustain such STEAM implementation efforts, from interacting with administrators to recruiting students and persuading parents about the importance of arts and computer science. In order to understand teachers' needs and practices regarding STEAM implementation, in this paper, we focus on eight experienced computer science teachers' reflections on implementing a STEAM unit using electronic textiles, which combine crafting, circuit design, and coding so as to make wearable artifacts. We use a broad lens to examine the practices high school teachers employed not only in their classrooms but also in their schools and communities to keep these equitable learning opportunities going, from communicating with other teachers and admins to building a computer science (CS) teacher community across district and state lines. We also analyzed these reflections to understand teachers' own social and emotional needs-needs important to staying in the field of CS education-better, as they are relevant to engaging with learning new content, applying new pedagogical skills, and obtaining materials and endorsements from their organizations to bring STEAM into their classrooms. In the discussion, we contemplate what teachers' reported practices and needs say about supporting and sustaining equitable STEAM in classrooms.

摘要： The ability to express scientific concepts in mathematical terms andintegrate scientific and mathematical reasoning about a phenomenon is afoundational cognitive process involved in scientific thinking. This processcalled blended math-science sensemaking (blended MSS) is a desired skill forall STEM students, but few students are learning it, and there is littleresearch on how to teach it. In this work we introduce the development andtesting of a novel instructional method for teaching blended (MSS) that issuitable for use in STEM courses in undergraduate and K-12 educationalsettings. This study builds on our past work on developing and validating aframework for characterizing in detail the cognitive levels involved in suchsensemaking. This work uses the unique power of interactive simulations forassessing and developing blended MSS. We designed instructional activities tohelp students use blended MSS in the contexts of heat capacity and Coulombslaw. The Heat Capacity activity was piloted in a freshmen Chemistry course andthe Coulombs law activity was piloted in a freshmen Physics course. The resultsindicate that for students who came in with no knowledge of the relevantequation the activity supported the development of both the equation, and theirunderstanding of the mathematical relationships of the equation. These resultsindicate that the teaching approach helps students engage in blended MSS athigher levels of cognitive complexity. © 2023, CC BY.

摘要： Background:Scientific comparative advantage is measured by using a specialization index (SI) of article citations. The profile data have been published in the literature. However, no such research has been conducted to determine which countries dominate the field of computer science (CS) (subject category [SC]) using the SI. A KIDMAP in the Rasch model has been applied to the display of individual student performance in school. Based on the SI of article citations, we used KIDMAP to determine whether China dominates the field of CS. Methods:The data were derived from published research in the Web of Science, which included 199 countries and 254 subject categories (SC, between 2010 and 2019). A total of 96 SC related to biomedicine were extracted. We examined 7 factors associated with CS using exploratory factor analysis. Based on the SI in CS under the Rasch model, 1-dimensional SCs on CS were displayed on Wright Maps and KIDMAPs. An analysis of the dominance of CS in China was presented on the basis of a scatter plot. Results:Our findings indicate that (1) CS domains are divided into 2 groups (traditional and advanced domains);(2) no evidence has been found that China dominates CS;based on SI indicators, China was ranked third with --2.62 and 0.79 logits after Taiwan and Slovenia (-(-2.62 and 9.24 logits in Factors 1 and 2) in the period from 2010 to 2019. Conclusions:There is insufficient evidence to demonstrate that China has a dominant role over other countries/regions despite ranking third in CS. In future studies, it is recommended to include a KIDMAP visual to assess dominant roles in other areas of research, rather than to confine ourselves to CS as we did in this study.

摘要： This paper describes and evaluates the educational interest of LearningRlab, an educational R package developed for teaching statistics in computer science engineering. The package was developed by final degree project students to be used as an educational environment for statistics students who evaluated the package and provided feedback for future versions. Such a process increases the motivation of both groups of students. This paper presents how the use of the R packages conceived and developed for engineering education can improve the learning process in the computer science engineering bachelor's degree. Two different evaluations, one performed by a group of statistics students, and the other performed by final degree project students, were used to evaluate the impact on the learning process of the first version of the package to develop the second version of the package, which corrects and enhances the first version. The evaluation results show a positive effect on the learning process in both subjects. The analysis of the learning outcomes reflected in the grades of the experimental and control groups demonstrates that LearningRlab can be used as a teaching aid for statistics and final degree project subjects of the computer science engineering degree. The average laboratory grade of the students who used the package (5.76) was noticeably higher than the average laboratory grade of students who did not use it (1.84).

摘要： In The Conservation of Races , Du Bois advocates that African Americans hold on to their distinctiveness as members of the black race because this enables them to participate in a cosmopolitan process of cultural exchange in which different races collectively advance human civilization by means of different contributions. Kwame Anthony Appiah and Tommie Shelby have criticized the position that Du Bois expresses in that essay as a problematic form of racial essentialism. This article investigates how Du Bois’ 1924 book The Gift of Black Folk escapes or fails to escape that criticism. It is easy to worry that the diversity of what Du Bois in this book is willing to treat as a black contribution to the development of America pushes us from the problem of essentialism to the other extreme: a lack of any conceptual constraints whatsoever on what can count as a black gift. I will argue that recognizing the cultivation of historical memory as a form of cultural activity is key to understanding the concept's unity.

摘要： Learning to program requires diligent practice and creates room for discovery, trial and error, debugging, and concept mapping. Learners must walk this long road themselves, supported by appropriate and timely feedback. Providing such feedback in programming exercises is not a humanly feasible task. Therefore, the early and steadily growing interest of computer science educators in the automated assessment of programming exercises is not surprising. The automated assessment of programming assignments has been an active area of research for over a century, and interest in it continues to grow as it adapts to new developments in computer science and the resulting changes in educational requirements. It is therefore of paramount importance to understand the work that has been performed, who has performed it, its evolution over time, the relationships between publications, its hot topics, and open problems, among others. This paper presents a bibliometric study of the field, with a particular focus on the issue of automatic feedback generation, using literature data from the Web of Science Core Collection. It includes a descriptive analysis using various bibliometric measures and data visualizations on authors, affiliations, citations, and topics. In addition, we performed a complementary analysis focusing only on the subset of publications on the specific topic of automatic feedback generation. The results are highlighted and discussed.
