摘要： This study assesses the impact of interactive learning environments and flipped classroom models on student engagement and learning outcomes in life sciences. We focused on the “Introduction to Laboratory Mice” course, utilizing the MITAKA SUPPLY Mimicky^® Mouse model alongside IT tools like Google Classroom, Kahoot, Mentimeter, Quizizz, and Zuvio for declarative knowledge instruction. The instructional approach involved: (1) delivering knowledge via flipped classroom with IT tools, (2) training in laboratory mice handling, (3) applying flipped classroom techniques with videos and presentations, and (4) fostering interactive environments through peer assessment. The study used pre-tests and post-tests, structured flipped classroom setups, and outcome assessments. Results showed that the flipped classroom model, paired with hands-on activities, markedly enhanced student engagement and comprehension. Attitudinal surveys reflected a positive shift, with students expressing greater confidence in their knowledge and skills in life sciences. This study highlights the role of clear objectives and goals for self-directed learning. Future research will examine optimal resource distribution and the long-term effects of these educational strategies. Findings provide key insights for educators in implementing and improving interactive learning within life sciences curricula. © The Author(s) 2025.

摘要： The new version of ACM and IEEE-CS Computer Science Curricula envisages the preparation of a dozen white papers within more than a third of the Body of Knowledge courses. Lack of experience in conducting research, insufficient ability to articulate thoughts, non-observance of defined recommendations, as well as forgotten verification of what has been done are key challenges in the implementation of these recommendations. Large language models (LLMs) can significantly support the creation of anticipated white papers, encouraging initial directions and inspiration for research, as well as a focused presentation of key elements of the work. Unfortunately, they can also hinder the creation of expected academic texts, promoting the superficiality of research and the presentation of unverified information. In order to facilitate progress in acquiring the necessary writing skills without discriminating against those students who have already acquired them and prefer traditional writing, we have defined a series of strict rules and strategies for preparing the briefing reports with complete, partial, or no reliance on the LLM. They were embedded into the faculty learning management system, implemented, and evaluated twice with more than 150 students during the academic year 2023/24. This paper presents a new approach along with the lessons learned from the first attempt and the changes incorporated into the second. Based on these two carefully designed, conducted and analyzed studies, teachers and students gained a very positive opinion about the impact of LLM on the creation of quality student reports. The effectiveness of the new approach is a guarantee that optimization of the integration of AI-generated content can become a benchmark for the successful preparation of student reports that can be recommended to the wider academic community. © The Author(s) 2025.

摘要： In May 2020, about 2 months after countless institutions across the world resorted to moving all their courses online in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we conducted a survey to evaluate the impact of this transition on a group of computer science students. That first survey highlighted mostly negative effects, with students struggling to perform many class-related activities. About a year later, after a full year of remote teaching, we wanted to see if and how the students’ sentiment had changed. To assess students’ perceptions of remote teaching, we conducted a new survey composed of 41 multiple choice, Likert scale and open-ended questions. Additionally, we interviewed instructors of computer science courses, to learn about their experience and how they adapted to the new teaching modality. 137 students and 10 instructors shared their feedback regarding their positive and negative experiences in the new learning format. Our results show that the students’ experience improved significantly, to the point that many of them expressed interest in continuing learning online, at least partially, but some populations (e.g., early years students) may still be at a disadvantage in this learning format. At the same time, the instructors manifested concerns that this may not produce the best learning outcomes for the students. The results and considerations included in this report may benefit the conversation on how to conduct computer science higher education in a post-pandemic world. © The Author(s) 2025.

摘要： In this article, we investigate a growing trend in the worldwide Quantum Technology (QT) education landscape, that of the development of master's programs, intended to provide graduates with the knowledge and skills to take a job in the quantum industry, while serving a much shorter timeline than a doctoral degree. Through a global survey, we identified 86 master's programs, with substantial growth since 2021. Over time master's have become increasingly interdisciplinary, organised by multiple faculties or through joint degree programs, and offer more hands-on experiences such as internships in companies. Information from program organisers and websites suggests that the intended career destinations of their graduates are a diverse range of industries, and therefore master's programs may be a boon to the industrialisation of quantum technologies. Finally, we identify a range of national efforts to grow the quantum workforce of many countries, "quantum program enhancements", which augment the content of existing study programs with quantum content. This may further contribute to the growth and viability of master's programs as a route to the quantum industry.

The journal previously published a corrigendum on behalf of the author that completed the analysis of Case 3 of Lemma 2 in the original publication. Further concerns about the study were raised by the author after the corrigendum published, which led to a full review of the manuscript by the Editor-in-Chief. After careful review, the analysis of the algorithm and the correctness proofs repeatedly use the inequality: OPT(G) ≥ OPT(G’) + l-1. This inequality is used first in the proof of Lemma 2 (Section 4) and is used repeatedly in the sequel of the paper. Unfortunately, the inequality does not hold in all input graphs. Without this inequality, the proofs of Section 4 are not valid and the claimed main results of the paper about improved approximation ratios do not hold. 摘要： NoSQL databases are essential for managing modern data-intensive applications. While SQL education is a crucial part of the software engineering and computer science curriculum, it is insufficient in addressing the rise of big data and cloud infrastructures. Despite extensive research on SQL education, there is limited exploration of NoSQL education, particularly in teaching methods and data models. This study addresses this gap by conducting a systematic literature review on NoSQL database education, aiming to assess current research, teaching practices, models, tools, scalability, and security mechanisms while offering a framework for integrating NoSQL into academic curricula. Out of 386 articles, 28 were selected for detailed analysis, focusing on NoSQL teaching methods, models, and curriculum development. Findings revealed that document-oriented and graph databases, especially MongoDB, Cassandra, and Neo4j, are the most taught. The project-based learning approach was the most common teaching method. Challenges identified include adapting to technological advancements, addressing diverse student needs, and the shift to online learning. This review contributes valuable insights into NoSQL education and offers recommendations for improving teaching practices in software engineering curricula.

摘要： Tricalcium phosphate (TCP) bioceramics have emerged as a promising option to meet the specific requirements associated with athlete bone fractures. Advanced computational modeling techniques, such as artificial neural networks (ANNs), have been leveraged to optimize the formulation, structural properties, and implantation strategies of TCP-based biomaterials. This personalized approach enables the tailoring of TCP implants and scaffolds to match the specific biomechanical and biological requirements of individual athletes, maximizing the potential for successful bone regeneration and a timely return to athletic competition. The strategic application of TCP-based biomaterials, combined with personalized computational modeling, holds great promise in revolutionizing the management of athlete bone fractures. This article investigates the use of an ANN to understand the complex relationships between various parameters, such as porosity and bone growth, and their effects on the biodegradation rate, compressive strength, and hardness of TCP-based bioceramics. The accuracy of the neural network's predictions was validated using linear regression analysis, confirming its applicability in guiding the design and optimization of these biomaterials for sports-related bone injury applications. The study developed an artificial neural network (ANN) model to accurately predict the biodegradation rate, compressive strength, and hardness of tricalcium phosphate (TCP) bioceramics as a function of porosity and bone growth. The ANN demonstrated high accuracy in forecasting these key bioceramic properties.

摘要： This study investigates how a CS teacher's professional identity develops during the implementation of an AI curriculum in a rural middle school. Addressing teachers' challenges with limited AI training, it focuses on identity dimensions of participation, self-categorization, and confidence. Data sources include classroom video observations and teacher interviews, analyzed using content analysis and Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA). The study finds that modeling, collaboration, and self-reflection strategies increase teacher participation and confidence, supporting positive self-categorization as an independent AI educator. The findings highlight the importance of targeted support to foster teacher identity development and preparedness in AI-integrated K-12 STEM + C education.

摘要： The accurate computational annotation of protein sequences with enzymatic function remains a fundamental challenge in bioinformatics. Here, we present HiFi-NN (Hierarchically-Finetuned Nearest Neighbor search) which annotates protein sequences to the 4th level of Enzyme Commission (EC) number with greater precision and recall than state-of-the-art deep learning methods. Furthermore, we show that this method can correctly identify the EC number of a given sequence to lower identities than BLASTp. We show that performance can be improved by increasing the diversity of the lookup set in both sequence space and the environment the sequence has been sampled from. We proceed to show that we can correct specific mis-annotations in the BRENDA enzymes database reproducing results found by others. Finally, we use HiFi-NN to annotate functional dark-matter protein sequences from NMPFamDB. Our findings pave the way for more accurate functional annotation in silico, especially for proteins from distant sequence space. © 2025 The Authors

摘要： To address the limitations of current transmission line point cloud segmentation algorithms in accurately segmenting fine-grained structures, this paper proposes a model named TLSNet. The network addresses the issue of uneven point cloud distribution through a dynamic density adaptation mechanism (DALNF-Layer), achieves cross-scale context modeling with a hierarchical-offset transformer (DLCTransformer), and optimizes gradient propagation using the inverted residual module (InvResMLP). Together, these components form an efficient point cloud segmentation framework tailored for the complex scenarios of transmission lines. Experimental results demonstrate that TLSNet achieves precise segmentation of key regions in transmission line point clouds, outperforming existing algorithms in segmentation accuracy. This advancement provides a solid technical foundation for the digital operation and maintenance of transmission lines, as well as for autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) inspection path planning.
