中国非物质文化遗产是中华优秀传统文化的重要载体,是讲好中国故事、促进文化交流的重要资源。在中国非物质文化遗产“走出去”的过程中,内容的忠实传递固然重要,但如何让海外受众理解、接受其中蕴含的文化价值则更为重要。有鉴于此,本研究从传播学视角出发,探讨了非遗纪录片《天工苏作》字幕翻译的原则与方法,分析如何通过字幕翻译有效推动中国非遗的国际传播与文化认同。基于《天工苏作》字幕翻译的案例分析,本研究指出中国非遗纪录片的字幕翻译实践应该以传播效果和目标受众为先,灵活运用意译、缩译和分译等偏向归化的翻译方法,在确保语言准确性的同时,兼顾文化符号的传递与受众的接受程度。本研究为非遗纪录片的字幕翻译实践提供了一定的参考,对提升中国非遗在国际社会中的认知与认同有一定的启发意义。China’s intangible cultural heritage (ICH) is a crucial carrier of Chinese traditional culture and a valuable resource for communicating China’s stories and promoting cultural exchange. In the process of sharing China’s ICH with the world, while the faithful transmission of content is important, it is even more critical to ensure that overseas audience can understand and appreciate the cultural values embedded within. In this context, this study, from the perspective of communication, explores the principles and methods of subtitle translation in the ICH documentary The Craftsmanship of Suzhou. It analyzes how effective subtitle translation can promote the international dissemination and cultural recognition of China’s ICH. Based on the case analysis of The Craftsmanship of Suzhou, this study points out that the subtitle translation of China’s ICH documentary should prioritize communication effectiveness and center on target audience, adopting free translation, omission, and division—translation approaches that lean towards domestication. While ensuring linguistic accuracy, these methods also emphasize the transmission of cultural symbols and audience reception. This study provides practical insights into ICH documentary subtitle translation and offers suggestions for enhancing the global recognition and acceptance of China’s ICH.
