摘要： It is often said that on the Canadian Shield, black flies pollinate the sweet lowbush blueberry, because years with high black fly populations also tend to be those with large blueberry crops. This folklore has never been tested experimentally. Here we report on research designed to test whether or not black flies can act as pollinators for two species of ericaceous plants, sweet lowbush blueberry (Vaccinium angustifolium) and leatherleaf (Chamaedaphne calyculata). In enclosures, black flies may assist in leatherleaf pollination but there is no evidence that they increase fruit set in sweet lowbush blueberry. However, we do not exclude the possibility that in the wild, they act as opportunistic nectar thieves of sweet lowbush blueberry.

摘要： The Katharine Briggs Folklore Award for 1999 was presented at University College London on Tuesday, Nov 9 by Professor W. F. H. Nicolaisen, President of the Folklore Society, following a well-attended lecture by novelist Terry Pratchett. The unanimous winner for 1999 was Marina Warner's "No Go the Bogeyman: Scaring, Lulling and Making Mock."

摘要： 地处辽西走廊的锦州，除了被历代皇帝多次敕封过的医巫间山、万佛堂和驰名中外的辽沈战役纪念馆外，笔架山风景区无疑是一个有着较为深厚的文化意蕴的所在。笔架山从海平面上拔地而起，孤悬于苍茫大海之中，只在落潮时才露出一道被称为“亚洲第二条海上天桥”的土坝，可供游人往来通行。海岸这边，与之遥遥相对的，是一个由以盘古雕像为代表的庞大汉白玉雕塑神像群组成的三清阁。

摘要： 由辽宁教育出版社隆重出版的社会科学新著《民俗学原理》一书，公开和读者见面了。这是我国著名民俗学家乌丙安继曾荣获多项全国一等奖的名著《中国民俗学》一书之后，在迈向新世纪的关键时刻出版的第二个里程碑式的重要代表作。这部著作的出版，将对国际国内民俗学的发展产生不容忽视的重大影响。

摘要： 《中国道观志丛刊》一书新近由广陵书社出版。这是继1997年整理出版120册煌煌巨著《中国佛寺志丛刊》以后，该社对宗教志书的又一次大规模整理，也是道教宫观志书的首次结集出版。

摘要： 上海对中国民俗学运动的贡献是很大的。在1995年巴蜀书社出版我之《中国民俗学史》中，对上海的民俗学运动有简略的介绍。如：1921年1月上海《妇女杂志》开辟“民间文学”和“风俗调查”两个专栏。胡愈之发表了《论民间文学》；乐嗣炳在上海中华书局编辑出版38册的《儿童歌谣集》；1931年叶德均在上海编《草野》的“风俗专号”；
